]]> Christmas is a marathon…a WONDERFUL marathon! We wake whenever the children do, having forbade them to enter the living room without us. I always woke up WAY before daylight & Mama would have to tell me 3 or 4 times to go back to bed til i saw the sun. my children have never done that and it’s always surprised me! Maybe its because we have such a busy Christmas Eve & they are exausted!

Anyway, after opening gifts at home (one big one from “Santa” and 3 for each wrapped under the tree, plus a stocking) we eat breakfast (thast usually includes chocolate FROM aforementioned stocking) and go to Frank’s parent’s for lunch & gifts. This year Ron had his tie tacks, collected from all over the world, made into pendants for all the women in his life. So beautiful, so special.

We usually squeeze in a nap before heading over the river and thru the woods to Grandonna’s house. I love that my brother Jason and his family and my sister Katie and hers are there with me. It’s not uncommon for other children of Ed to show up for dinner as well. mother has always had quite the gift for entertaining and always makes it so traditional and special…lights all the way up the drive and trees lit in every room.

The celebration continues into the night when games are played together, and toys are enjoyed until we just DROP. Mother has been making potato & egg tacos on Dec. 26 for breakfast for several years now, special because it was a favorite Christmas morning breakfast until Daddy Jim died & mother & i just couldn’t bear the same tradition without him. A birth, a big birthday and a concert. Baby Rachel Lee Wohlford was born, Frank turned 40 and the Eagleaires performed their fall concert. Happy stuff alll around.

]]> First of all, let me give photography credit to our friend Billy Pope who is a true professional. Its obvious which ones he took. Mid to late summer Grandonna & Pop Pop put in a pool and we took FULL advantage. Even Pop Pop was out there playing Marco Polo. All three girls were swimming like little fishies & living it up with friends & cousins. Can’t wait til the pool opens this year!

]]> Ella Grace has been at such a sweet school this year. She’s made some wonderful friends. This is Shelby. She was also adopted from China. Everyone tells them at school they look like twins. When they do they both smack their foreheads at the same time which is hilarious. She has also come a long way academically. We decided to do kindergarten again this year. She will always be a year older than most in her grade, but i think that’s ok cause she needs to be a little girl as long as she can. She kinda missed some stuff in the beginning.

After her sister & I went to see Wicked for her birthday back in February, Katy fell in love with the soundtrack. Knows every word. I looked around and saw that they were doing the play in Nashville & took Katy as part of her Christmas gift. She said at intermission, “I told myself i was going to mouth the words to all the songs so i wouldn’t disturb the people around me but i just couldn’t take my EYES off the stage! i was just too interested!” All the thanks i needed, right there.

We stayed in a hotel overnight and went to the historic Rhyman Auditorium-the “Mother Church” of country music-and the home of the original Grand Ol’ Opry where my grandfather played the upright “bass fiddle” for Pee Wee King. He is standing with it in the 1942-43 cast photo that Katy is pointing to in the photo above.

They have a nice little “recording studio” set up in the auditorium and Katy sang Amazing Grace with a nice little gospel style accompaniment.

My grandfather also had many stories about honky-tonkin’ on Music Row! One of the favorites for he & his buddies was Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge right around the corner from the Rhyman. So…Katy & I went and had a coke & listened to the guy play for a few minutes around 11am.

Wonderful memories…hope as many for her as for me.
